With profits from his New Glarus general store, Russian immigrant Solomon Levitan bought a general store and operated it here. The shows Levitan as a pall bearer at Sen. Robert M. La Follette Sr.'s funeral in 1924.
Elizabeth Lev, now of Whitefish Bay, owned a small sheep farm here in the 1990s for about 10 years. She kept a kosher home, buying food in Madison, and affiliated with Madison's Temple Beth El.
